Below is an age appropriate calendar for your recommended healthcare tests. Your healthcare is important to us.

Adolescent

Ages 12-17

Most patients in this age group are under the care of a family doctor or a pediatrician so a visit to a gynecologist is not required unless there are specific menstrual difficulties or other gynecological concerns.

Ages 18-39

Patients in this age group should have annual examinations which include:

  • Height and weight
  • Blood pressure
  • Pelvic and breast exams
  • PAP Smear
  • Urinalysis - if indicated

Every five years, a patient should have blood work, including a cholesterol screen. At age 35, a woman should have a baseline mammogram, unless she has a strong history of breast cancer, in which case she should speak with her gynecologist regarding the frequency and start times of mammograms. Many women will also desire discussing available methods of birth control.


Midlife Transitions

Ages 40-64

Annual exams for patients in this age group should include:

  • Height and weight
  • Blood pressure
  • Skins exams
  • Neck and breast exams
  • Abdominal exam
  • Pelvic exam and PAP Smear if uterus present
  • Extremities
  • Mammogram
  • Bone density - frequency based on risk factors
  • Labs - (individualized)
  • After age 50, a woman should have a sigmoidoscopy every 3 - 5 years
  • Annual influenza vaccine (flu shot)

Menopause

Ages 65 and older

  • Height and weight
  • Blood pressure
  • Skins exams
  • Neck and breast exams
  • Abdominal exam
  • Pelvic exam and PAP Smear if uterus present
  • Mammogram
  • Bone density - frequency based on risk factors
  • Labs - (individualized)
  • Sigmoidoscopy every 3 - 5 years

Some Of The More Common High Risk Conditions Include:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Excessive Obesity
  • History of Multiple sexual partners
  • Drug use
  • Heavy smoking
  • Significant history of medical health conditions
